About the Artist

Hot, Hot Night in Negril (3)

Artist Ray Keats works from her home studio which is situated close to the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales, UK.
The natural beauty of the surrounding landscape and its proximity to the sea has an influence on her work but as Ray says "This is not entirely so as my inspiration comes from many sources  -  music, poetry, and people - my travels in the Caribbean - my cats and my love of the patterns found both in natural forms and man-made objects.
My travels to the Caribbean enriched my work - not only in respect of the vibrant colour and life there -but from working alongside two Jamaican artists for many years.
I am a colourist at heart but with a profound love of drawing whether it be figurative or non-figurative."
Ray works in many different media - painting in oils, acrylics and watercolour. Pastels, pen and ink, pencil, line and wash as well as collage.
After years spent teaching art Ray moved to North Wales to concentrate on her own work and has been exhibiting regularly there since 1991.
Ray's work is both individual and innovative. From her subtle watercolour landscapes of North Wales to her exuberantly bold and colourful Caribbean paintings she constantly moves from one inspirational subject to another extracting ideas from her sources and developing them in many different ways.
